We had the good fortune of connecting with Rahim Ewan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rahim, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up isn’t an option, I have to keep pushing, keep striving to be better everyday. My way of thinking has changed since I first started my clothing line, I’ve made so many mistakes in a 3-4 year span, I’ve had ups and downs but I’ve learned from every situation. When I decided to get into Fashion I knew it wasn’t a overnight success type of business, I knew there would be pitfalls, I knew there would be loses but I knew just like with anything else you get out of it what you put into it and that’s why giving up isn’t an option. The goal is to better today, to work harder today, to achieve more today, satisfaction isn’t an option right now so therefore I can’t give up. You have to be strong minded, have tunnel vision and be willing to understand that things aren’t always going to go your way, but if you’re willing to learn from your experiences you’ll understand giving up is just a waste of time, and successful people don’t believe in wasting time, we believe that you invest time and eventually you’ll create profit. I see a lot of designers and fashionista’s out here, a lot of people are progressing and I love it, I respect the hustle, I respect the grind. You give up when you stop believing in yourself, fortunately for me giving up wasn’t an option in my household and who am I to mess up tradition.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my professional career I wear a few different hats, first I’m a Campus Recruiter with American Express so I travel across the country visiting some of the top universities looking for top talent in the Technology and Finance field. I enjoy this role because I’m very passionate about Diveristy, Equity & Inclusion and it gives me a chance to provide career opportunities to individuals who may come from diverse or underprivileged backgrounds but possess the skillsets to make a difference.

I’m also a college professor at a HBCU in Miami, FL, Florida Memorial University. I’ve had the honor of being an educator over the past few years and building a bond with the students has become a second nature to me. I’m very much involved and I advocate for those who are interested in educating themselves and creating opportunities for their families and their communities through education..

Being that education is obviously very important to me, I’m on the board of a Non-Profit Organization, The Ewan Education Foundation founded by my father, my uncle and myself. This Organization was founded to provide financial assistance in the form of 4yr scholarships for Highschool students graduating from Central High School located in May Pen, Jamaica.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great question, if we’re Columbus, Ohio we have to make the best of it. First of all we’re going to get 2 rooms downtown at the new Hilton off of High St so we’re in the midst of what’s happening at all times. For afternoon drinks and dining we’ll check out FYR Restaurant in the hotel and then head upstairs to Stories on High for a few cocktails after dinner before we hit the streets. Nightlife we’ll definitely check out Alley Burger on Wednesday nights, Thursday & Friday we’ll probably check out the Easton area and step into Beeline, while up north we have to keep it Caribbean and check out Ava’s Taste of The Caribbean. Weekends is all about Ohio State Football, anywhere on Campus is a good time, afterwards we’ll head out east for a good steak or large lobster tail at THE TOP. After dinner and drinks probably finish the night out at the D&S on the east side for some good old school music with a cool grown vibe.

If you’re in the mood to boss up, sit back with a good glass of cognac you can never go wrong with a one of the cities Cigar Bars.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My story is long and well rounded but there’s two people that I have to always give credit too, the first would be my brother M1 from the legendary Hip Hop Duo “Dead Prez’. I always credit M1 from when I started off as a promoter, he helped me grow my network in the promotion game and even to this day he has help me elevate my clothing brand by introducing me to a ton of different Artists who have supported the brand.

Next would be my fiancé, my partner, lol. She was the one who really pushed me to starting my company and chasing the dream of owning my own clothing brand and to stop spending money on other brands, find a way to keep the money in house. She’s been very supportive and has helped me create several different designs as well.
