We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Sellers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a Commercial Voice actor, you generally operate as an independent contractor. I knew from an early age that I wanted to do voice overs for Television and Radio. The only way to really do that in Cleveland Ohio was to set-up-shop. So, unless I started a small business providing voice over services, there simply was no other way to do it. I was determined to be successful and that meant hard work, long hours and little to no pay at first.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a professional Impressionist as well as a pro voice actor. I also sing. Being able to do straight narrations, character voices, Impressions and sing is partly why I’m a working voice talent. I also write Commercial copy, scripts, audiobooks, etc.

Being a creative is a key component for achieving a sustainable Vo career.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cleveland offers many fine dining and entertainment experiences. I’d start by heading to West 6Th St. I’d begin by heading down to the Dive Bar for drinks, then off for Italian Food at Jonny’s Downtown. Afterwords we can enjoy The Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve worked with many fine audio engineers over my 30-year career. Audio Engineers are the unsung heroes of the voice over world. T. Wes McCraw is an engineer I’ve worked directly with for the past 25 years. Without his help I would no have achieved the level of success as a voice actor that I have been fortunate enough to reach.
