We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Zaborowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricky, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I worked as a respiratory therapist when I graduated community college. After a while I felt like I settled for a career I didn’t truly enjoy and I needed something more creative. This had me thinking about what I actually wanted to do with my life career-wise. My wife and a couple friends work in the haircutting/salon business and it always seemed like something I’d like to do, so I decided I’d go to barber college with “High Hopes” of opening my own business one day. 8 years into becoming a barber, here I am owning a small business

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that I listen to each and every customer that comes through the door no matter if it’s your first or 100th time in. I’m consistent in the quality and outcome of your haircut. I take my time, being meticulous with every detail, and treat everyone’s hair as if it were my own.

I’m most proud and excited about having a place I call my own and can build it however I choose

Getting to where I’m at professionally wasn’t exactly easy. It takes a while to build a clientele and hone your skills to a point where you have absolute confidence anything you do. You can’t be afraid to try new things and really just be yourself. I’ve learned that just being available and nice to people goes along way in a service industry. I’ve also learned to not over complicate things.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely go to fatheads brewery and get some beers and wings. Then I’d go to a show, bowl or just get drinks at Mahalls 20 lanes. Definitely try and get to a Cavs or Guardians game and go to city tap after and get some crispy tater tots and post game beers. You can do some outdoorsy activities anywhere in the metropark system or cuyahoga valley national park. You could also hang around any of the neighboring areas such as Lakewood, Ohio city, Tremont, Gordon square or the flats. There is soo much to do in the Cleveland area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife (Meghan Zaborowski), all clients past, present, and future. Also anyone I’ve cut hair alongside leading up to opening my business.
