Meet Sa’Kiyha Matthews | Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sa’Kiyha Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sa’Kiyha, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
If it doesn’t motivate me to go harder or even benefit me in a positive way it isn’t for me to keep going. It’s hard to stay motivated sometimes, but regardless of who cheers for you always remember to celebrate yourself. We put so much pressure on ourselves that we rarely even take the time to admire the small and big things that have been accomplished during the journey. Many of the things you’ve dreamed of wanting to do since you were a kid you are doing and have done, so let that be a piece of self motivation.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Not only am I an aspiring model I have a long term goal of becoming a traditional Midwife and opening my own practice . I’ve always wanted to work in the health field due to helping take care of my sick grandmother and aunt while growing up , so it’s always been a passion of mine. I decided I wanted to be a Midwife about 5 years ago after doing a lot of research and studying what they do, and how beneficial home births and alternative medicine could be. It took countless days and nights of research to find schools that offer traditional Midwifery, or programs for certifications, and even financial aid assistance. This has not been such an easy process, because it’s difficult finding connections to other people who are Doulas and Midwife’s or even people who know who they are. The few people I have connected with along the way have been very helpful and inspiring. It’s been a challenge facing the bumps in the road but it will all be worth it in the end no matter how long it takes me because my vision is bigger than me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you ever decide to come to Lima there are a variety of places that you should check out from clothing, food, community events and any beauty service. If you want to just chill out with a latte and a book or even go to a poetry slam The Vibe Café is the place to be. A few places to eat are Taste of the New Horizon, Bite & Buzz, SAM’s SWEET treats, and The Krab Trap. I would like to shoutout two clothing brands that are on the rise in Lima one is Daringly Different, and the second is Motiv8r. I would also like to shine the lights on a few ladies who have started businesses that are thriving, Lashes by Corri, The BeauT Cannon, Loyal Designz, Wrappidly Evolving, and A1 Beauty & Skincare. There is so much to offer in the city you can even break a sweat with Tesha Banks aka Lady Redd for a Cardio Drumming class at the Bradfield Community Center and coming up soon we have the Juneteenth Celebration. Lima may be small , but is filled with amazing local Black owned businesses that need more recognition.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I thank God, my family, and spirit team for protecting me and guiding me on this path that has been created for me.
The vision that I have is much bigger than me and better than words could ever explain. It makes the life I live worth living. I am grateful for the people who have encouraged me and discouraged me along the way, but I’m not finished I’m just getting started. I have learned , unlearned, and relearned multiple things that will carry me.
Also I want to shoutout everyone who has played a part in my modeling career. Platinum22, OhioCreativesUnited, and FAPU are all amazing groups filled with people I have made life long bonds and connections with and I’m forever thankful for that.
