Meet Sam Antics | Creator and Beauty Business Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Antics and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
“You are the vessel for your own biggest dreams”. The legacy I want to leave is not simply “believe in yourself” but that if you have a dream, a desire, a goal – you owe it to yourself to create the path that will take you there. You are capable and worthy.
I would love to be remembered for encouraging others to forge their own path. It’s important to me to leave this place better than I found it and to leave each person I interact closely with the same way. If I can believe for you in the times that you’re not sure, if I can share my experiences and resources to help you grow towards your highest potential – that’s enough for me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My current concept is a holistic head spa dedicated to nourishing well-being. Within our historic 1800’s German Village mansion, we house a collective of powerful, mindful women dedicated to service and nurturing the inner-self. We connect through the power of high-touch, encouraging the reception of healing and regulation in a concept that we affectionately refer to as our “deep magic”.
In our space we offer a new take on the traditional Japanese head spa scalp facial. We also offer hair cuts, color, extensions and styling, facials and waxing, Tarot and Reiki, nails, tattoos, business mentoring and a variety of special events that will have a portion of proceeds returning to our immediate community. It’s a vibe that we are overjoyed to be able to share.
This is my third brick and mortar concept and really it’s the culmination of everything I hoped that my other visions would someday be. This process happened organically and through sharing the vision with anyone who wanted to listen! It felt like divine timing when the exact location that I had been consistently drawn to became available within the same month that one of my clients offered a modest startup capital and the partnership that would bring Village Root to life.
We were tasked with mindfully renovating a ~150 year old building on a strict timeline, with limited funding. Luckily, the hiring process was easy as the building and concept itself drew so many wonderful, talented beauty professionals. Other than building, hiring and training, the rest was years of dreaming about this realization and spreading the word.
Our logo, composed of the delta symbolizing change, healing hands and a dainty Queen Anne’s lace flower is a nod to the generations of those who came before us and made it possible to share these services with our community. The logo was designed before the business was even operational and has remained a constant reminder of this important work.
We hope to honor the historic struggles of the first German immigrants to settle and create our village. It was my personal German lineage that called me to this part of town where I own a home and wanted to build this business. As a child, my grandmother shared with me that her favorite flower was always the Queen Anne’s Lace. I asked “but Gramma, isn’t that just a weed?” and she replied that it’s only considered a weed in Ohio because this flower, too, is an immigrant. I learned that the Queen Anne’s lace was originally regarded as a representation of Beauty and Sanctuary and so it only seemed right for it to be the center of our emblem. It reminds us that even when the world may view us a nothing but a weed, we are all beautiful and deserving of being seen for our true selves.
It was the night before our Grand Opening that I was researching the history of our building. That same night, I stumbled upon the style of architecture in which our mansion was modeled… it sent chills throughout my body when I read the words – “Queen Anne’s”.
The biggest takeaway for me throughout this process? Trust the universe when it leads you to your purpose. Everything, everyone (including your ancestors) is rooting for you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Columbus is full of the coolest pockets of cultural prosperity! Our first stop would be for the best grilled cheese sandwich they’ve ever tasted, surrounded by the glow of 1000 year-round Christmas decorations via Lois Mann’s Restaurant on South High St! Then I’d take them for a stroll through German Village and the stories and stories (pun intended) of literature housed in The Book Loft. After, we’d grab a Coffee at Upper Cup or Parable and visit one of our amazing parks or scoot down the Scioto Mile before checking out a local music show, maker’s market or destroying them for a few rounds of Killer Instinct at 16-bit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The team of women that I work with is the backbone of what I’m able to accomplish, I am a dreamer and they help make my dreams a reality. They are the weavers of the tapestry that I get to take credit for creating. For some reason, they believe in me and my vision and I owe every success and good thing in my life to the women that stand beside me.
