We had the good fortune of connecting with Scarlett Ripberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scarlett, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’d like to say it runs in the family, everyone in my family has some type of arts they like to participate in whether its music, painting, or writing we all love the idea of self-expression being creative allows. I didn’t initially pursue art as a career, it’s honestly been a passion project. I had a big push to pursue writing after my mother’s untimely death. I was really struggling to find poetry that helped with the loss. My mother was an amazing writer, and she always encouraged my writing, so I started sharing my work with the world in hopes of helping others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My road to publishing began in 2018-2019 with the loss of my mother, nephew, and childhood friend. I was completely swallowed by my compacted grief. I was constantly searching for something to read to help me along in my journey and I just couldn’t find any poetry that centered around grief and healing. I had always written poetry but never thought to share it.

With some encouragement from friends and family I took the leap and started to share my work and found that there were so many people just like me looking for something to help them.

I’m not just a grief poet. I write about it all, every part of human existence, and feel like my book has a little bit of something for everyone. My connection to poetry runs deep as my mother was a poet and I always felt like she has been cheering me on even from beyond.

One day I’d love to co-author with her work and really showcase her writing as well. My debut book Footsteps of Life a journey into a chaotic mind takes you into my head and shows you the many facets of a full-time working mom and wife, part time student, writer, who’s dealing with all the crazy things life has to throw my way.

Keep an eye on my socials for the release date of my book coming in 2024!
Its so important to me that my words are helping others and I have such a community of readers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in the west side of Cincinnati. It would be wrong to not take a friend to Price Hill Chili. I have so many amazing memories there and you can’t go wrong with a classic Stinger sandwich.

This area is packed full of so many fun things to do.

The Cincinnati Zoo is always stunning and Crohn’s Conservatory during the butterfly exhibit is one of the most beautiful sites to see.

Right over the bridge is where we can get the best view of the city at Devou Park looking down at Cincinnati is breathtaking. While in Kentucky might as well go a bit further and check out Rabbit Hash. This little town is one of my absolute favorite places to sit by the river and write. The local mayor will greet you with a tail wag and a kiss.

Afterward, you can head to Erlanger to northern Kentucky’s best-kept secret Sake Bomb restaurant.

The kind-hearted staff and food are spectacular.

A trip to the aquarium or art museum during the day will keep us busy but getting Skyline is absolute if you are coming to visit Cincinnati. We can grab a quick 3-way before heading to Union Terminal or catching a Reds game.

The breweries in Cincinnati and NKY are top-notch, grabbing a quick drink downtown before seeing a show at a Playhouse in the park or the Arnoff.

Not to mention the amazing live music at one of the many venues we have in the city.

After a long week of running, you’ll be searching for a quiet place to get some coffee.

I suggest Sitwell’s Coffeehouse first Tuesday of every month is poetry night or try the HIVE in NKY.

This is merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the fun we can have in Cincinnati.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really need to thank all my family, friends, and followers who constantly support me day in and day out.

My partner Collin and my son Dean your love, and light always keeps me smiling.
I want to thank Tyler Tittle for always singing my praises.

Thank you, Melissa Combs with Octave Eight publishing, for seeing my potential and making dreams come true.

Thank you to anyone anywhere who has read or listened to my poetry.
