We had the good fortune of connecting with Selina Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
During Covid, I had a lot of time to explore and practice hobbies in the house. I sat on social media longing for the days when we could go outside again and started fantasizing about coffee shops. I began looking on Instagram for a Columbus specific coffee page but only found food blogging pages. I decided that I would be the one to start a page where people could go and see all the coffee shops in the city in one place. And the rest is history!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a teacher has been very rewarding and challenging. I’ve been teaching for 11 years now as a special education teacher in Columbus City Schools. Seeing the challenges kids face, which are very similar to my upbringing, is a full circle experience for me. It can be challenging to penetrate the walls kids have up due to their harsh upbringing and circumstances but I pride myself on building rapport and trust with my students. I also pride myself on showing them the right way to do things and being an influencer for something as cool as promoting coffee shops shows them something unique and creative. They can stand out and be their own person apart from the cultural norms that have been pushed on us as a whole. Nothing worth having comes easy but man is it sweet when we get there.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to pick a different coffee shop (or 2) every day for a week here’s where I would take my friend:

Monday: Moonbird and Third Way

Tuesday: Let’s go to Clintonville and stop by Galaxy, Two Tigers, Eclectiques Antique Mall and Small Talk Shop

Wednesday: Let’s go to Westerville to Espresso Air and make candles at Blend Candle Co. Later in the day let’s go to Qawah House for night coffee

Thursday: Let’s go to Jonathon Khoi Nail Spa for pedicures and coffee then later in the day let’s go to Chocolate Cafe

Friday: Let’s head to Three Bites/Little Cat for breakfast then grab Black Kahawa for later

Saturday: Let’s have pancakes and coffee at Winn Winn cafe but we also have to stop by Royal Flamingo!

Sunday: We HAVE to go to Bear’s Bagels for breakfast and coffee then we can end the day with more coffee from Casa Cacao

Let’s hope we can squeeze in Parable, Littleton’s, Matcha Me, Kape, and Koffee Paradise! (There’s too many to choose from!!!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Credit has to go to my kids because my life depends on coffee because of them. I have to stay awake and alert to keep up with my little loves
