Meet Shanice Sample | Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Sample and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanice, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had an entrepreneur spirit before i even knew exactly what this concept was and before its popularity its gained in this current era. Although in any position that I have ever held in the past I have always been reliable and a hard worker, soon i figured I can apply this mindset into working for myself and going towards my dream. Without even having a real plan developed I just started and have learned things on the way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the owner of Bottles UP Bartending, located in Toledo, OH. We serve all surrounding areas, and have traveled for events. This was something I started back in 2014, kind of took a break from it and started back up in 2021 and it has been non stop ever since. One of the things I’d say what I noticed about my business compared to others similar in the area is Bottles Up offer a variety of services. Merchandise, and party rentals just to name a few makes us stand out so I am proud to be able to serve people in any ways i can and give these options. This is by far not an easy journey. Consistency and discipline moves me and helps me grow for sure. It all hurts and it is hard but as a person in general you have to figure do you want to hurt because you gave up, or do you want to hurt for a short period of time on the journey towards your success, i choose success on a daily and act upon it. Through it all, good or bad days you have to keep a positive mindset. Its so important to cut distractions i cannot stress that enough!! Prioritize, get as organized as you possibly can and stay involved in activities in your line of work & that helps you evolve into what you aspire to become and reach the goals you have for yourself and your business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my city!! Honestly there are plenty of hidden gems to eat, have drinks, check out poetry and a host of other events. As far as drinks, of course any pregame will definitely start with me, its only right so I make sure if I’m expecting folks I have some signature favorites available and some good home cooked food to go with it! When its time to hang out, i say if its like early, want to grab a good smoothie or a drink i love Brewhouse on Summit in Toledo, discreet, laid back chill spot to get some work done with a good beverage. I love over easy in Perrysburg for a good brunch meal, or basil located across from it. this is such an unfair topic lol i feel like i’m leaving so many things out! If you are ever in the area, check a mud hens game out, walleye, jeep fest. You can’t go wrong with any local events for sure
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, so I am truly blessed to have a great support system. To Start I shoutout to my children first and foremost. They are truly the driving motivation for me to step and move forward with everything I seek. To me parents should be their children’s first role models and I strive to display this behavior to my children on a daily to show them that you have to stay moving, you can do anything you ever wanted to do as long as you put in the work. I have list of mentors and a handful of close friends that encourages me to keep going, give feedback and constructive criticism when needed and I like to let each of them know that it is appreciated, it helps me stay focused and push to be better than I was the day before.
