We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Everhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe that without taking risks in life or business you can’t get far in either. You can’t succeed without taking a risk in anything in life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started tattooing over sixteen years ago. I thought because I was an artist it would be easy. I was wrong… It took me a while to understand tattooing and I taught myself so that was even harder. Putting art on people is a lot different than pencil or paint. Creating a new custom piece of art for each person I find is more challenging than the tattooing now that I know how. Paper or canvas is flat and still. People are not. I hired people that were better than me at my first studio in 2010 and watched them and soaked up all the knowledge I could. Then had an employee/friend named Michael Syar who taught me more than anyone else and really made me the tattooer I am today. He sadly passed away from a motorcycle accident but without him I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. Through the years I’ve studied different styles of tattooing and traveled around the U.S. learning as much as I can to better my craft.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would more than likely take them to Cedar Point, Cameron Mitchell’s Ocean Club or various restaurants and bars in downtown Columbus. Depending on the time of year a baseball game, football game or a hockey game. Columbus has more to do than people think.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give all my thanks to God and my parents for always being supportive and positive. My mother who always knew the right thing to say when I’m doubting myself and my father who is always willing to help when I’m stuck on a problem.
