We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Archer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My friends, are why I started this brand. So many of us are nerdy, in different ways, and we need somewhere to nerd out together. So I created a brand, that brought a community together. Music, movies, toys, etc. In some way, we’re all Nerd Affiliated.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my style is considered, chaotic. I tried being a graphic designer in college, and dropped out. I couldn’t duplicate someone else’s style, which is what a lot of artist try to do. People tend to have an influence, and try to add their own signature to it. I try to simulate an idea, and make the execution my own.

The biggest challenge to it all, is keeping my brain in check. There are so many ideas I have, and things I want to make, but it’s impossible to do it all.

I’ve fallen into every job I’ve had, including this brand. I’m proud of my ability to try something, fail, but keep trying at it.

There are no rules to being a nerd. It’s all about having a passion, and wanting to explore that passion. There is no pass/fail to it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take my friend outside to a beach or just on a walk. As a creative, it’s hard taking a time out from creating. So I normally use a friend visiting, as an excuse to get outside.

In a perfect situation, there would be a comic con in the area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out the community to helped build Nerd Affiliated. Especially my family. They’ve purchased merch, donated and shared my content. Without them, this brand would be nowhere.
