Meet Victoria Ludaway | Executive Producer & Owner of BLEV 614, LLC – Media and Production Company

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Ludaway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As an African American woman in the media and production industry—a space that’s historically lacked diversity and access—I knew from the beginning that my path wouldn’t be easy. But I also knew I wasn’t called to follow the traditional route. I was called to lead, to build something meaningful, and to create space for others like me.
My thought process in starting my business was rooted in the idea of ownership—owning my creativity, my voice, and the platform through which stories are told. I didn’t go to school for media or filmmaking, and in many ways, that could have been a barrier. But I didn’t see it that way. Instead, I saw it as a challenge to overcome. I learned everything on the job—on production sets for music videos, TV shows, live concerts, and film projects. I soaked it all in, made mistakes, asked questions, and kept growing.
That hands-on experience helped me realize that talent and vision can’t always be taught in a classroom—they have to be lived. And that’s where BLEV 614 TV Show and Media Production was born: out of a lived understanding of what our community needs, what stories deserve to be heard, and what representation truly means.
My passion was never just about being in front of the camera or behind it—it was about using media as a tool to educate, inspire, and uplift. I saw firsthand how difficult it was for Black creatives, especially women, to get a seat at the table. So I decided to build my own table—and bring as many chairs as possible for the next generation.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been mentoring and working alongside young people who have that same hunger I had when I started. Through The Fishbowl The City Foundation, we give students—especially minority youth—access to hands-on training and career opportunities in the multimedia industry. We show them that they don’t need to wait for someone to give them permission to create—they already have everything they need inside them. They just need the tools, the exposure, and someone who believes in them.
Starting my own business wasn’t just about making money or building a brand. It was about legacy. It was about healing, telling our stories, and proving that excellence comes in all shades and backgrounds. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve learned on the fly. But every challenge has been a stepping stone to purpose. BLEV 614 isn’t just a production company—it’s a movement. A platform for unheard voices. A safe space for innovation. A legacy in motion.
And it all started because I dared to believe that I could turn my passion into purpose—even in an industry that didn’t make it easy for people who look like me. I’m living proof that it’s possible—and I’m committed to making sure the next generation knows it too.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art lives in storytelling—visual storytelling that uplifts, educates, inspires, and amplifies voices that have been silenced or overlooked. As the founder and executive producer of BLEV 614 TV and Media Production, my work is rooted in authenticity and culture. Whether it’s producing a documentary that preserves Black history, filming a concert, or developing a television segment on social justice, every project I touch is intentionally crafted to empower.
What sets me apart is not just that I’m an African American woman in a male-dominated industry—it’s that I’ve built my career without formal media training. I didn’t go to film school. I didn’t have a roadmap. What I had was passion, faith, and a relentless work ethic. I learned hands-on—on film sets, television shoots, and music video productions. I observed, asked questions, made mistakes, and never gave up. That grind taught me everything I needed to know—not just about production, but about resilience.
Was it easy? Not at all. In fact, there were times when I felt like quitting. Funding was hard to come by, support was inconsistent, and navigating the politics of the industry as a Black woman came with its own set of challenges. But I leaned on my faith, my village, and the bigger picture. I focused on impact over popularity. Every challenge became a lesson. Every closed door pushed me to create my own.
I’m most proud of the work I do through The Fishbowl The City Foundation, the nonprofit arm of BLEV 614. We provide media training, scholarships, and job opportunities for young minority creatives. To watch a student come in with just a dream and leave with skills, confidence, and even an Emmy nomination—that’s what excites me. That’s legacy.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is simple: I create content that matters. I don’t follow trends—I create movements. BLEV 614 is more than a media company; it’s a platform for truth, culture, and community. It’s a home for storytellers who refuse to be silenced.
I’ve spent my life proving that you don’t need a perfect path to create powerful art—you just need purpose, persistence, and people who believe in you. And now, I’m committed to being that believer for the next generation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I have friends or family visiting, I love making it a meaningful and fun experience. I prefer traveling with loved ones and discovering unique places—whether it’s exploring an old Ohio village or spending a weekend in a treehouse surrounded by nature. I believe the best memories come from the unexpected.
If they’re in Columbus, we always start downtown. I encourage them to explore the Short North Arts District, full of murals, creative boutiques, and amazing local talent. One of my favorite spots is BLACK ART PLUS, a boutique that celebrates Black creativity and culture.
For dining, I love introducing people to gems like Ginger Rabbit, a jazzy, intimate lounge with craft cocktails and live music, or Soul To Go Café, where the food is soulful and the vibe is homey. We’d definitely make a stop at Short North Tavern, a relaxed, artsy spot that represents the spirit of Columbus.
I also recommend visiting local museums and art spaces to feel the heartbeat of the city.
Columbus has soul, style, and a creative energy you can’t ignore. I always want my guests to leave feeling inspired—and ready to come back for more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. While my journey as an entrepreneur and media producer has been fueled by faith, passion, and perseverance, I didn’t get here alone. There are key people who played a vital role in shaping the woman I am today—and I’d like to give them their flowers too.
First and foremost, I want to dedicate this shoutout to Ron Johnson, the award-winning videographer from WBNS-TV (CBS Columbus) who first introduced me to the world of media. Watching Ron work behind the scenes with such excellence, professionalism, and creativity sparked something in me. He opened the door to a career path I hadn’t considered—and in doing so, changed the trajectory of my life.
Second, my deepest thanks go to Dr. Bea Foster, whose mentorship has been a lifeline through every high and low of my journey. She has guided me through tough decisions, stood beside me during moments of uncertainty, and cheered me on as I received my flowers—whether it was an award from the Mayor, recognition from City Council, or success stories from my former mentees now thriving in their own right. Dr. Foster saw my potential before I did and never let me give up.
These two people in particular helped mold the vision behind BLEV 614 and my commitment to uplifting the next generation. I also want to recognize every community partner, student, and elder who poured into me with love, encouragement, and knowledge.
This journey is not just about me—it’s about the village that raised me, supported me, and continues to walk with me. To everyone who’s been part of my story: this shoutout is yours too.
