Meet Zen Sonora | Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zen Sonora and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zen, why did you pursue a creative career?
Modeling has given me a chance to express myself Mentally, Physically and Spiritually. I can always be myself along with any other persona I want to take on that day whether it’s a fashion show, photoshoot, or model call. Modeling has boosted my creativity level up a ton just from styling myself to directing how I want the photoshoot to go. It also allows me to build up the confidence and become the activist I always wanted to be. I am labeled as a curvy model so I want other curvy sized models to be able to look at me and say “I can do it too ”. I as well have a 3 year old sun that looks up to me. I am a firm believer in just because you had a child or more doesn’t stop you from conquering your dreams. If I can atleast touch one soul a day to push forward with their dreams I’ve gotten the job done within myself and the universe.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my optimism & determination. There isn’t much opportunity in my hometown so majority of the time I have to drive 2/3 hrs for calls, workshops, shows, and shoots. I love to take pride in unique photoshoots. In each of my photos there is always something unique or odd. Each of my photos represents an important message to others that come across them. I’m most proud of the accomplishments I’ve had during my model experience I’ve been featured in magazines, walked in some pretty awesome fashion shows, and was even painted to go in an Art museum. At this very moment I am going to be ripping the runway in LA for Los Angeles Fashion Week Oct 2024! I got to where I am today because I never gave up! I kept going and claiming things as mine. I didn’t allow anything/anyone to get in my way or stop me from my main goal. I didn’t start my modeling career until I was pregnant. I’ve always said I wanted to be a model but to actually do it and see the fruits of your labor come true, you really start to see what your purpose is. You will definitely get some rejections but as long as you keep pushing the “Yes” will start to roll in! No journey is easy! It’s all about keeping you faith and never giving up!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, Im more of a nature gal and so are my friends. Nature is the best way to go for me. I love to venture out to any local Parks for a good sight seeing just so I can get my mind focused and balanced. However, if I was to take my friends anywhere for a good time it would definitely be Akron/ Cleveland OH! I’ve made some beautiful connections there and we always have a ball anywhere we go. Since most of us are models we like to go downtown and get some good content. There are awesome murals around the city as well. I don’t eat meat so I normally will pick a place that has vegetarian options or atleast a banging side menu lol. The soulful vegan in Akron is always a go to for me. We also hit downtown again for the nightlife it’s always a party there.

Amanda Rose at WildrosephotographyLLC- she has been my main photographer my whole modeling career since I’ve been back to Ohio & because of her I have accomplished so much in my modeling career.

My parents: Robert (Christina) Phillips & Tawanya Croom They have always been my biggest supporters. They continue to push me and give me the courage I need to set foot anywhere on set/stage.

I have a pretty big village so I’d like to give them all a shoutout as well. (Friends, Supporters, etc)

Most importantly God! Without that guidance from the Divine I wouldn’t be here today.
