Over the course of my career and through training to become an executive and life coach, my perspective on work-life balance has evolved significantly. Instead of viewing work in opposition to life, I have adjusted my mindset to consider the balance between my Professional and Personal realms of life or the integration of Work and Home activities, energy, and attention. The realization struck me that work is merely part of life – often a hugely critical part, but only one part. Attempting to compartmentalize either the personal to protect the professional or vice versa can lead to unnecessary stress and dissatisfaction that spills into both realms and is wholly unsustainable. It’s crucial to recognize that the different domains of a holistic life aren’t mutually exclusive but rather intricately woven threads that contribute to the fabric of our existence and how we experience it. The most important thing I’ve learned over the years is that you can’t pour from an empty cup. In order for me to show up as my best self in all areas of my life, I need to make sure that my cup is full. For me that means reading a book with a cup of tea every week-night, doing yoga, going on a walk, rollerblading, eating good food…anything that gets me out of my head and into my body. Read more>>

My work life balance has been quite the rollercoaster ride over the last four years. I went through a period of switching day jobs, and doing temporary side gigs. All while i was running two small art businesses and vending weekly. It was really tough to find a way to balance all of the hats i wear. Honestly, the classic journaling and drawing my own graphs and calendars is my lifeline. Im such a visual person so it really helps me to draw it out.
