Meet GAY-Z | Comedian and Civil Rights Activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with GAY-Z and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GAY-Z, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Rich Comedic Rockstar Productions, LLC because I wanted to create a brand that would bring love and laughter to the masses. I have been performing as a professional comedian for nine years and in the seventh year I decided to apply for an LLC to be able to market my comedy on a broader scale. I believe that Rich Comedic Rockstar Productions, LLC will eventually become one of the most well known businesses in the entertainment industry. I hope to produce television and film projects that will relate to everyone no matter what you identify as. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Writing for Film and Television at the Los Angeles Film School; I want to be able to produce content that everyone in this world will enjoy. My hope and prayer is to heal this world through comedy but not limited to comedy. I want everyone to know that there are people out here that can relate to the struggles that you may be going through and we are all connected, you are not alone in this life! You are loved!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been performing comedy professionally for nine years, I started on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Cleveland Improv. However, I started performing in front of a crowd when I was eight years old. The first time I made a large group of people laugh was during my Christmas speech in church. The feeling that I felt making a large crowd of people laugh was all that I needed to continue to make people smile. I was the class clown at every school that I attended in the Cleveland Heights School System, I still have all my yearbooks to prove it. I have been blessed to open for several comedians that I grew up watching on BET’s Comicview and Def Comedy Jam; this is my greatest accomplishment. I opened for Alex Thomas, Damon Williams, Rodney Perry, Just Nest, Kelly Kellz, Bernita Ward, Rob Allen, and Gary Owen. The late great David A. Arnold was my comedy mentor; I miss him so much and I hope he is proud of me. What sets me apart from other comedians is that I try not to repeat jokes. Many people love that when they watch my YouTube channel, they can see a different performance every time they watch my videos. It is not easy writing new material for every show but it can be done and I enjoy the challenge it brings to each comedy performance. Comedy is an extremely tough industry to try and overcome. There’s so many comedians and the competition is tough. I don’t look at any comedian as my competition because I feel each comedian has their own story to tell and we need to hear each comedians story to become more connected as a society. I want every comedian to make it to the level that they see their comedy career going to. One thing about facing challenges is that you must go through them so that you can learn the necessary lessons that life is teaching you. I am a stronger person for the trials and tribulations that I have faced along this comedy journey and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am currently pursuing a degree in Film and Television at the Los Angeles Film School and I hope to produce content that will help this world heal. I want everyone in this world to know we are all one. God made each of us special and now is the time to love each other the way God intended.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Growing up in Ohio for 36 years I know all of the fun hangout spots. First, I would take my friend to a few of my favorite places to eat: Angelos Pizza on Madison Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio; Vienna Distributing Company for some corned beef; and Zanzibar Soul Food in Shaker Square in Shaker Heights, Ohio. I like to hang out at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Science Museum because I am a nerd. Also Cedar Point is always a fun place to hang out. I am an alumni of The Ohio State University, so going to a game at the Shoe is an experience that must happen before you leave Ohio.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have one person whom I owe everything to and that is the woman whom I love…Gayoncé. My future wife is my everything! When everyone turned their backs on me, she was the only person who stood by my side and encouraged me to continue to keep swimming. I met her when I was eight years old at Fairfax Elementary School in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She was and still is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. I am who I am today because of her and I owe her my career and life. I want to say thank you Cook for all that you do for me. I work very hard and I do it because I want to make her proud, I really hope she is! Thank you Gayoncé for being the love of my life and I can’t wait to marry you; I love you forever and always!
