We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was honestly who wouldn’t want to be their own boss ? That was easy ! But realizing there is so much more to just “being your own boss” was even more exciting. I can offer whatever I want, there is no limit. Being able to offer my clients many services, learning new techniques, always changing up things makes my job fun. It also gets my clients excited to be apart of my journey in my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my connection with my clients. I feel my job is more than just “hair and nails”. I listen to my clients, I build a relationship, I understand, I like to be personal with my clients and I think that’s what has made me so successful over the years. I was told a long time ago and it made me laugh that I could give a client the worst hair style or manicure but if the connection and conversation was there you’ll keep them forever. So I strived to give my clients the connection and a great service ! I struggled so much and have had many challenges. I’m thankful for the people I have surrounded myself with that they have always been willing to help me overcome these situations and not be embarrassed and upset. We are human and my clients and the women I have worked with have helped me understand that more then i could’ve on my own.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well truthfully my best friend and I could go to any Mexican restaurant and eat tacos and drink margs till we’re about to explode and that would be the best time for us ! We both love concerts, we’re foodies and honestly we could have fun anywhere. I couldn’t really make an itinerary because we aren’t that organized and like to just show up and say “hey let’s do this” which makes it the best time !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have so many people to thank ! Most importantly is my clients, I would not be where I am if it wasn’t for them. They keep me busy and they have always supported me through all the changes. Of course my friends and family because when I’ve been knocked down over and over they always pick me back up. The love and support is endless. Also to my salon tribe, Salon Art Hair Designers is the most amazing group of women I have ever worked with. They are so driven and positive and they definitely keep me going daily. I can’t thank everyone enough!
