We had the good fortune of connecting with Erik Loomis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erik, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that there is no “perfect time” to do…pretty much anything. There will always be pros and cons to almost any decision you will ever make. The trick is to stack as many cards in your favor as you can. Do your due diligence, talk to experts, consult with friends/family/mentors, but don’t over-analyze every single little thing – there are usually 2-3 big criteria that you will need to have your ducks in a row. Otherwise, you can figure out a lot of things as you go.

I am a big fan of doing something vs. doing nothing (and actually, doing nothing is a conscious decision to take an action). If your conviction is based in solid fundamentals, you will do just fine, it may just take some time to get where you want to go…and that’s ok.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business partner, Dr. Satinder Bharaj, and I founded Pahhni Premium Alkaline Water, an alkaline bottled water that uses natural limestone filtration, vs. the artificial means many competitors use. Most people value natural vs. artificial and we are also seeing that in the marketplace. Good for you + great taste = winning product!

Any business, any idea, anything worth doing is going to take work, a lot of it. Anyone can start a business from scratch, but again, do your due diligence, be flexible to changing with the environment, and trust the process. Also – don’t think you have to do everything yourself, there are tons of resources in the community that can help you achieve your goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depending on the time of the year, a Reds or Bengals game is definitely on the ticket. Cincinnati has done a great job with the Banks, so any of the restaurants down there.

For some other local flare, the city of Hamilton has done a tremendous job over the past several years to make it a destination worth visiting. From lunch at Alexander’s, grabbing a drink at the Casual Pint, or dinner at Tano’s, there are lots of destinations that are exciting to visit. Not to mention the talented (and free!) concerts in Marcum Park during the Summer. We attended all the concerts this year to promote our business and I can tell you the people we met were just fantastic. That’s how you know you want to come back – the people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
#1 – My wife Marsha. Being the spouse of a startup founder is much harder than any other work that is going on! The trust, the family management, the solid foundational rock I can rely on day in and day out, the assistance on any part of the process, business or otherwise, at any time….I could go on and on and on. She is fantastic and I wouldn’t be here without her.

#2 – We worked with a non-profit early on in the process, SCORE. Our assigned mentor was Bob Leslie, a retired executive who helps companies like ours develop and become successful. Bob was absolutely instrumental in not only answering our questions, but making sure we were asking the right questions in the first place. His latest venture is the MADE Hub, which offers help from providing a launching pad for aspiring entrepreneurs, to combining resources across the community. It’s in Mason, go check it out!
