Meet Cheyenne Wright | Owner, Brokepam Productions dba The Haunting of Bloody Mary

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheyenne Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheyenne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Historically I’ve always operated in my own way. Early on I was a server for twenty one years, then a freelance artist for the last fifteen. In each of these careers I have been the one to craft the customer/consumer experience. Once I decided to finally launch themed entertainment business, it was a bit overwhelming. However in the end the goal is the same. To provide an unforgettable and superior experience for the guest.
I am very fortunate to have a team of people with me who believe in the same concept and end goal.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Launching a themed attraction feels like the natural progression from my professional career. It involves a tremendous amount of creativity and flexibility. My background as an artist started behind the chair in a traditional salon environment, then it pivoted to freelance work which includes print and film. To be successful in these categories of entertainment you have to be able to problem solve, and pivot sometimes with very little notice. There are also multiple personalities and styles of communication that need to be worked with and understood to bring a look, character or project to completion.
Navigating these experiences have allowed me to be successful in getting the our attraction of the ground. None of this journey has been easy. Launching an attraction of this scale is extremely challenging. As my mentor Joe said, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.” So I just take deep breaths and focus on the steps in front of me. One step. One day at a time.
I’ve learned that launching a business of this scale takes a long time! Which helps me work on my patience. I tend to want everything to happen now. ha ha.
Our brand “The Haunting of Bloody Mary” is a reflection of our personal values; artistic excellence, inclusivity and community engagement. We plan to utilize our attraction as not only entertainment but a steward of these values. We are also committed to the elevation and empowerment of females. This is very important to me navigating a male dominated industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For me the best time ever involves friends and food and coffee. Haha. I live in NKY and there are some local places that I just love.
Galactic Fried Chicken in Dayton, KY
Roebling Coffee and Books, Newport, KY
Otto’s Deli, Covington, KY
Chef Hip E’s Cocina Loca, Rabbit Hash, KY
I always recommend a Reds evening game. Our ball park is so lovely especially at dusk. The view from Mt. Adams. Devou Park or Eden park are always on my list.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Launching a themed entertainment attraction from the ground up cannot be done alone. There are so many people who have been instrumental in how far we have come in this process. First of all my SCORE mentors are absolutely amazing. I have three of them, Diane Powers, Joe O’Gorman and Denny Blazer. There feedback and guidance is invaluable. I highly recommend the Cincinnati SCORE program to anyone looking to start their own business.
Secondly, my husband Jason, who is also my partner in this business, is my biggest cheerleader and sounding board when challenges feel overwhelming. I could not launch this business without him.
I would also like to recognize the people in the themed haunted attraction industry. So many individuals have given us support, love and passed on a wealth of knowledge and experience. Specifically, Bobbie Weiner from Bloody Mary FX, Bud Stross and Josh Wells from the Dent Schoolhouse, Brandon and Miranda Moore from Brimstone Haunted Attraction. These folks align with the idea that collaboration is what elevates this industry.
