We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Homerski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because I want to do work that makes me happy and is fulfilling to my soul. And in the process I get to help others express themselves through clothing and fashion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m all over the place when it comes to art. I draw, paint, knit, play with clay, and do 3d models and animation. Right now my buisness revolves around my crochet and illustrative work. With crochet I make masks, tops, armor, plushies, pillows, and upcycle peices of clothin Despite the medium, my inner world is the thread that connects all my art together. Whether it’s a clay creature or a silly balaclava, they all originate from a world within me that I’m still trying to explore and understand.

I got to where I am through hard work and trial and error. I had mentors and teachers who helped me progress artistically, but it was always me who had the drive to continue. I started drawing when I was 14 and I sucked. But I learned that if I wanted to get better I had to draw everyday and take it seriously. I drew from real life and started with learning basic foundational drawing skills and eventually studied a couple years of drawing with my grandmother, Sue Buck, who was a drawing professor at Allegheny College. After high school I spent a year in college and decided it wasn’t for me. I continued to pursue my art and learned 3d modeling and crochet from YouTube. Meanwhile putting myself out there online and locally. Despite having help, I still faced a lot of rejection with my art whether it was from my high schools art program, local businesses, or people in general. All the opportunities I have received currently were because I put myself out there online, at local vending gigs, or festivals. Nothing has ever been handed to me. But I have had to learn to push through the rejection and it has made me stronger and more resilient. The rejection has made me realize that not everyone will understand my weird wearable art but I still have to fight for it’s place in the world because who else will?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Truthfully I’m new to Erie and trying to figure best food/ hangout spots myself. I’m a foodie so my favorite places to explore are restaurants and bakeries. My favorite food stops so far have been Bakery on 5th, Calamari’s, and Habibi.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a big shoutout to Feed Media Arts. The crew there, especially Benton C. Bainbridge, has been a huge support for me and not only my business, but also my growth as an artist. I have been able to blossom and expand to do things I have always wanted during my time as their gift shop resident. The support of the video artists at Feed like Kelly Killz, Collin Bonner, Lindsey Joy Vaughan, and Data_Wretch has been so appreciated and world expanding. I would also like to shoutout my collaborator Lonesav. Meeting such a likeminded artist has changed my life so much and the work we create together is so much bigger than anything I can create by myself. He has been such a huge supporter of my art and continues to inspire me to grow and become bigger and better. I want to dedicate gratitude and some love to my sister Livia. She has supported me through highs and lows and I would not be the person I am today without her. She has always been one of my biggest support system throughout my life and I owe so much of my success to her. I love you bestie.
