We had the good fortune of connecting with Alec Shellabarger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alec, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Relationships. Focusing on building, maintaining, and nurturing internal and external relationships has been a large reason for the significant growth we have seen over the past few years.

What should our readers know about your business?
Arcon Builders is a Commercial and Residential general contractor services clients throughout the States of Ohio and Indiana. Our experience first approach defines who we are; our Mission Statement “To provide the best experience for our Customers, Vendors, and Employees” encompasses our approach to our industry. Our Vision is to “Deliver a quality project on budget and on time”; channeling this over the years accompanied by our focus on quality has maintained our name in the industry and set us apart from our competition. Nothing is easy, and the construction industry is no exception. We overcome the challenges we face by collaborating with our repeat vendors who we have rooted a relationship with; we identify what resolution looks like, how we will get there, and we move forward. Without our people we are nothing; it takes each and every employee to keep the machine moving forward. Constructing with Arcon is about more than the sale, the building, or the development; we create a relationship along the way that well outlasts the project itself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start out by grabbing breakfast at K’s diner in Troy, Oh followed with a morning bike ride on the Great Miami River Recreational Trail. Lunch would be had at Hinders a hole in the wall joint that is locally famous for their chicken wings. The afternoon would be spent touring downtown Troy grabbing a beer at Moeller Brew Barn and dinner at Smith’s Boathouse.

Middle of the week we would grab dinner at The Foundry and then head across the street to the Dayton Dragons stadium to watch a minor league baseball game.

To close the week out we would head to John Bryan State Park for a morning hike followed by a lunch and beer at Yellow Springs Brewery. We would then spend the evening bouncing around the DORA section of the Oregon District with dinner being spent at Thai 9.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dedicate this shoutout to my dad, Tim Shellabarger, founder and president of Arcon Builders. He started the company in 1985 and created the foundation that we have been able to launch our commercial divisions success off of. My wife, without her continual support we would not be where we are today; growth comes with a lot of extra hours, mental fatigue, and dreaming – she is understanding, supportive, and dreams along with me. Our team of estimators, project managers, and superintendents should also be recognized as they are the heartbeat of Arcon.
