We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Mcmillan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was at a crossroads or learning a trade, or going to school for a degree. I wasn’t so sure I wanted to “clock-in” the rest of my life but I was also equally unsure if a college degree was worth the investment. Finally I knew I wanted financial comfort and flexibility to pursue my passions. Entrepreneurship kind of runs in my family and so I made the deep dive into starting a business

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are one of Ohio’s only organics focused recycling businesses. I am most proud of our impact we have on the global warming issue as well as creating a new opportunity for folks to recycle. It wasn’t easy. I started with a beat up, pick up truck in the middle of the pandemic, collecting peoples food scraps in a bucket. The best lesson I have learned so far is tenacity and the ability to never give up when you believe in something. I would love the world to know that anyone can achieve anything. I was once a homeless drug addict but I got it together and now I’m living my best life at 35

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to take folks out for food and culture so I would definitely start with some of the new restaurants here in Northeast Ohio and then we would definitely have to explore some of the cultural institutions like the Cleveland museum of art or go see a show at Playhouse Square. There’s a great little independent movie theater by my house called the Nightlight where we can wind the night down with a little indie film, we could always spend a day up on the lake just chilling at the Edgewater beach. Lastly, will deathly check out the Westside market and all the food it has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my sister Hailey who never gave up on me.
