Meet Corey Williams | Drag Artist and musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
How much mental, emotional, and physically energy goes into my brand. There are no 9-5 M-F business hours. So, my brain is constantly working.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a professional artist. Anisa Love, is the drag character that I created 24 years ago. It was recreational for years and then about 10 years ago, I made the leap to create art full time. This journey has not been easy. The midwest can be challenging at times, especially during this political climate. I’ve stayed true to my core beliefs that everyone is deserving of love and respect, regardless of race, gender, identity, religion, etc… I’m an open book. I have an amazing husband, Brian. I have become a homebody, that loves to read for pleasure. The brand of Anisa Love is a truth teller, freedom fighter, and no nonsense Activist. I grew up in a small town in Indiana, before moving to Ohio in High School. I’m a proud Buckeye and I believe that if more people created art, the world would be a better place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a lover of food. I would suggest The Refectory for a nice romantic dinner with delicious food and amazing service. Columbus is the corporate office for Cameron Mitchell, so there are options at any of his restaurants. Martini and The Avenue for sure! For a fun dip back in time, The York Steakhouse. For a great drink, Mid City Garage (ask for Bobby). I suggest going to COSI, and The Columbus Museum of Art, grab a Columbus Crew game or head to Nationwide Arena for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The local music scene is amazing, two of my favorite bands are MoJoFlo and Yachtopia. Of course if you want to experience something truly unique, come to District West and check out a full scale drag production show led by myself, Virginia West or Shawty West. They are so much fun, interactive and extremely unique.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people and organizations that play a factor in support of my art. I want to shout out my mom, Eugenia Williams. The Greater Columbus Arts Council, Virginia West, Stonewall Columbus, and The Kaleidoscope Youth Center.
