We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted to have my very own cosmetics business, however I didn’t have any experience on how to start my own business. One thing I did know was that I was going to do it regardless if I had the experience or not. I started to do more research on how to create products and how to market my brand effectively.

I wanted my business to be built on inspiration, so I wanted to create products that sparked some type of inspiration in my customers. I made my business slogan “Inspiring Through Cosmetics”, since I was creating cosmetic products that were designed to inspire. I knew I wanted my business to have innovative collections, high quality products, and more! I begin writing out my plans on how I could execute these projects for my business and build my brand along the way.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Charismatic Cosmetics, a vegan & cruelty free cosmetic brand. Charismatic Cosmetics was created to inspire through cosmetics. The amazing innovative products and collections we launch definitely makes us extremely original. I create and design each of our collections from scratch and all of our glosses are handmade by me. I’m most proud of my brands ability to grow and consistently improve with our quality.

I got to where I am today by staying consistent, faithful, passionate and determined. I am beyond passionate about my brand, so it’s a must that I keep working hard to achieve my business goals. It does get challenging at times being an entrepreneur and running a business completely by yourself, however I love every step of my journey! During this journey I learned that challenges will come, but you have to remember why you started. Along the way I have learned that failure is not a bad thing, it helps you grow! I also learned that it’s always room for improvement and growth.

I want the world to know that Charismatic Cosmetics was created while sitting in my dorm room at Tennessee State University. I was able to bring my dream to life by consistently working through trial and error. Charismatic Cosmetics will continue to Inspire Through Cosmetics and with more consistent hardwork we will be in a store near you! We’d love to see you try out some of our top quality products!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are many places you can check out, but some of my favorite places are located in Crocker Park and The Flats.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give recognition to my mother and both of my brothers. Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur they have supported me, uplifted me, and believed in me. There were even times where they packaged orders for me and shipped off products.
