Meet Destiny Thompson | Freelance Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I believe my business helps the world because I get to use the gift that God gave me to make someone else’s day. There have been countless times where I deliver the design my client ordered and they tell me how much joy it just brung them. What could be better than that? There is no better feeling than them telling me that I brought their vision to life and I feel like that doesn’t happen in a lot of industries so I’m just grateful to be able to be apart of it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started designing 5 years ago at a difficult time in my life career wise, personally, etc. I had just moved from my hometown to a new environment that was kind of a cultural shock for me. I knew that I had to do something that would beneficial to me in all areas. I started designing and thank God it took off from there, but of course there were and still are challenges that I deal with while running this business. Work/Life balance being one of them because I’m a single stay at home mom to a 2 year old so finding the right time to do everything that needs to be done can be hard, but I’m determined to reaching the potential that God placed in my life so there’s no such thing as giving up.
I’ve learned that staying consistent truly is the key, staying in client’s and potential client’s faces is extremely important. No matter if I feel like it that day or not, a post needs to go up, designs need to be sent out, and just in general business needs to be handled. Sometimes, because we’re human, that motivation gets lost, but I find that discipline and consistency bring back that motivation so it’s just all about how bad do we want to be successful? Dessy Designs (my business) is my main source of income so I have no choice but to get up and do what I have to do, but because I love creating art, it doesn’t feel like work most days.
I want the world to know that no matter what anyone says about you and whoever doubts is not going to stop you from reaching your potential. Only you can do that by believing them. There are a lot of people that know what I go through on a daily basis that may not think that I can do it, but I believe in what God says about me and that’s all the validation that I need.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m honestly a home body, but I’m currently in Central Jersey so I would definitely recommend Rai Rai Ramen, The Twisted Crab, and if you’re in Jersey City, you have to hit up Cemitas Puebla! I think if you really enjoy each other’s company, going anywhere is going to be a fun time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my client Grizz for bringing the opportunity to me! He actually won a free cover art giveaway I was doing for my 5 year anniversary so I just really appreciate the love and support of him thinking about my business for this! I also want to dedicate this to God for exalting my business and story for his glory. I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for him!
