We had the good fortune of connecting with Dewey Rice Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dewey, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say the most crucial factor behind the success of my brand over the years has been staying consistent, believing that I can, and looking further than ‘today.’ I have always been a person with a vision, knowing I wanted more for myself, but not exactly how or what that was. Finding my voice in the later years led to me starting my brand, and since then, my brand has opened doors to other ventures like curating events.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been in the game of ‘poding’ for 4+ years, and one thing I can say is that it’s not for the weak. I usually make jokes about the struggles I encounter, from finances to even personal relationships, but I rarely talk about the struggles of turning your passion into dollars. It takes consistency and genuine belief in self to stick to something that one, doesn’t make money and, two, doesn’t seem to have the reach or views you feel it should for the amount of time you have been doing it. With that being said, I have experienced many wins but many challenges as well. I think knowing that there are people out there watching and being encouraged with something a guest, or I say, keeps me going. There are individuals who I don’t know personally who share with me how an episode or event they attended made them feel, and, in those moments, I remember why I continue to produce, curate events, and create content. Over the last 4 years, I have learned one major lesson; if you don’t believe it, no one will. it sounds like such a simple saying but its major. If you aren’t posting, spreading the word, and advocating for yourself and your craft, why would others? Knowing that, I continue to push through.

If there is anything I want the world to know about me and my brand is to remember that everyone has a gift, everyone has a voice, and everyone has a story; never be afraid to share it with the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I would first need to know what type of vibe they were looking for. If we are going for more of a chill vibe, I would start with brunch and take them to Grandview Cafe. They have a mimosa special and great food. Next, we would either check out Short North or keep it simple and hit a mall like Polaris or Easton. If we are talking night life, I would say spots like Noir, local events thrown at the Kee, and even Lyfe, D&S, and the Savoy, which I refer to as my ‘old head’ spots, where you can catch great vibes, great food and great prices.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This one is tough to answer because there isn’t just one person to recognize. We always hear that it takes a village to raise a child and I believe this to be very true. For me, PWTR is my baby, and the growth of my show and success in the events I’ve thrown has only been possible because of my village. From my mom, dad, grandma, my big sister Stephanie (who I refer to as my manager), to my younger siblings, close friends, and supporters. It’s always challenging to start a business but with the help, encouragement, and support from those in my village, I have been able to continue to flourish so if you’re reading this, and you continue to hold me down, shoutout to you and I appreciate every one of you!
