We had the good fortune of connecting with Katy Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My friend and I started columbusfoodie in 2015. She and I were roommates at the time and loved going out to eat together. It was just a fun idea when it began (eat food, take pictures, and post to instagram). I had no idea it would turn into the platform that is now!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The journey to get columbusfoodie to where it is today has been an absolute blast. It has been fun and fulfilling getting to share with all of my followers my food journey and showcase local businesses throughout the city. As a Columbus native, it is really cool to watch the Columbus food scene expand and grow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting Columbus for one day my ideal food day would include:
1. Breakfast at Skillet or Joyas
2. Lunch at Mr. Sushi or Brassica
3. Dinner at Lindeys on their patio, steak from The Barn or some delicious pasta from Lola’s
4. And ice cream from Graeters to end the day

It’s hard to pick just one!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While I run this Instagram solo now, I do owe a lot of the success to my friend Reanna who helped start it and run it with me for many years!
