Meet Kevin Ruppert | Bricky’s Comedy Club Founder & Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Ruppert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The primary motivation for starting the business was to create a mechanism for cultivating additional resources for the local comedy community. The thought process behind it involved creating something that was small at the outset but easily scalable as growth opportunities organically arose. In other words, I wanted to set up something that could be built gradually but sustainably. That’s the way we’ve tried to execute it so far, with consistent step by step progress.
What should our readers know about your business?
I think what sets us apart from others is the fact that our business prioritizes building a community and advancing an artform over making money. Our primary goal is to contribute to the growth and quality of the local comedy community and we measure our success based on whether that objective is achieved. We’ve gotten to where we are today by simply persevering and continuing to put on shows even when there’s a high degree of adversity. Since starting Bricky’s we’ve had to navigate around cyber-attacks, virus outbreaks, and just general skepticism from some that our business model is viable and can succeed. But we’re still here and still growing. And with each hurdle we clear, we acquire more knowledge about what it takes to succeed in this industry. The primary thing I want people to know about our brand is that we are consistently evolving and getting better at providing a great comedy experience for comedians and audience members alike.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend coming into Miamisburg to visit I’d probably take them to Hamburger Wagon for lunch, then give them a tour of all the local shops before taking them to Bullwinkle’s for dinner. Then I’d take them over to Star City Brewing Company, which is also where Bricky’s Comedy Club is located 😃 After the show I’d take them over to Good Time Charlies before calling it a night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Rose Ruppert, my grandma who adopted and raised me. She instilled a lot of the values that inspired me to undertake this endeavor.
I also want to dedicate it to my mentors and peers in the Dayton comedy scene, as well as the amazing staff at Star City Brewing Company, which is the venue that Bricky’s Comedy Club is based out of.
