Meet LaTeef Barrow | Visual Artist, Musician, DJ, Barber, & Custom Jeweler

We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTeef Barrow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaTeef, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Being the optimist I am I’ve always considered what most people think of risk taking, simply as “betting on myself.” So in other words risk taking has gotten me everywhere I’ve needed and wanted to be in life and my career. All of my careers as a; visual artist, musician, DJ, custom jeweler, and barber, have taken time, money, and dedication. Time, money, and dedication that military parents see as pointless and irresponsible, until you reach a certain level of success to prove yourself. It’s not to be taken as doubt but more so a risk assessment done out of love. But when you know your potential the reward is always greater than the risk!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes me smile the most in my career is walking into my very own barbershop & art gallery, located at 880 Sullivant Ave, every morning. But it does not stop there, hanging on one of the walls is a poster of my very first art show where my journey began. The full circle ambiance is fulfilling. In 2016 I curated an art and music show called “Picasoul” at Wild Goose Creative, which is now located blocks away from my establishment. In 2016 I didn’t have the confidence to showcase my work in a solo show. It took years of building multiple brands around myself and developing an array of artistic talents before I would reach my potential. While fighting depression and raising a family I’ve learned and perfected the skill of adaptation. Any time I get bogged down in any area I switch to another art form and keep my creative juices flowing. Finally December 6th, 2025 I will get the chance to let the world know exactly what i have to offer in my very first solo show, “Master Jack!”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The very first stop anyone must make coming to see me at my shop would be to stop at any convenience store in Columbus and grab a bag of Grippos and a Calypso lemonade. For lunch you’ll stop by Teritas Pizza for a large Pepperoni Pizza. While in the area you’ll head over to Clown Cone Confections for some homemade ice cream and candy. Later for a great evening and nightlife, Franklinton, where my shop is located is full of amazing bars and galleries like my favorites Land Grant Brewery, or 400 W Rich St Galleries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost my family and friends! My core circle is very important and supportive in various ways! But this shoutout goes to the artists of all kinds who have ever doubted themselves, I too had times where i felt like I couldn’t keep going. So like my father told me “if life ever gets hard enough to tie a rope use it to hang on a little longer to chase your dreams!”
