Meet Lisa Grizaniuk | Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Grizaniuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued art and specifically painting as a career as there was nothing else I thought about and had wanted to paint I was a young child.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love everything about color. I love color theory and the way in which individuals perceive color and the color in a painting. I paint alla prima which is typically done in one sitting as it means wet on wet painting. It allows for true color and deliberate brush marks to be applied in an effective way. Some refer to it as brushstroke economy. In that economic mindset there are no wasted opportunities and the planning allows for well executed mark making with the paint. I prefer to use larger brushes with squared edges to make the most of the color.

This can allow for very vibrant and dynamic paintings that capture the subject in a unique way. I enjoy painting florals, fruit, bottles, landscapes and occasionally plein air painting. We are surrounded by so many beautiful options to paint en plein air in Northwest Ohio.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I was welcoming an out of town guest I’d suggest the metro parks in Toledo. There are so many landscapes in Ohio with it diversity that I think Lake Erie and the Lake Erie Islands offer great views. You can throw a dart at a map in Northwest Ohio and you will not be disappointed where you land.

We are rather lucky in Toledo with the local food available and if it’s not a chain then I’m in…food trucks are everywhere and Patron Saints Brewery hosts them every day. If it’s local, and there’s a patio then we all win.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to recognize my family, close friends, as well clients I’ve met through the years whom have become friends. My husband has been integral to my career and without him I’d be nowhere.
