We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeson Witkosky-Barr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madeson, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that one of the most important factors behind our success are the personal connections we’ve made with our customers/our community. We have several “regulars” we see every week. They believe in our vision and love our products. Listening and responding to their desires of new merchandise or new concepts is always at the top of our list. Our customers love when we take their suggestion and start to carry a new product they introduced us to. We love to provide a space that they feel comfortable and want to stay & shop awhile!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creativity. Authenticity. Community Value.
Those three factors set our business apart. We’re always inspired to use our space to be as creative as we can be from our products to our displays. It’s always a goal of ours to “think outside the box” and be unique to our brand. There are always challenges when it comes to business and being authentic to your brand, but the best wisdom I have gained throughout the years is to be true to yourself and never let anyone discourage you from your dreams. Focus all your energy into your business and shine on!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, there are so many fun places in our region. Where to begin?

Monday- We would start our morning off by heading over to SIPS Coffee Truck for incredible coffee, but even better conversation. While in that area, I’d show my bestie the Julia Historical District because I’m a huge fan of older homes. After a walk through the Historical District, we would head down to the Parkersburg Art Center to check out their gift shop and see any exhibits they may have on display. For lunch, we’d walk down to the Parkersburg Brewing Company and enjoy a tasty lunch with a fresh beer!

Tuesday- Start the morning off with breakfast and coffee while enjoying the outdoors at The Bakery and Coffee House! The staff is so sweet and incredible there!! Afterwards we’d check out McDonough Wildlife Refuge and take a long hike while surrounding ourselves with the great outdoors. We’d stop for lunch during our hike, then have a relaxing afternoon sitting by the riverwalk in Marietta. For dinner, we’d head to the best restaurant in town, Southern Craft!

Wednesday- We’d spend the day shopping downtown Marietta, making sure to hit all of our favorite shops– Clutch Collective, Wit & Whimsy, SP Curated, The Cook Shoppe, EmLeigh’s & Mama B’s Boutique, and several more! We’d stop for a delicious quick meal from McKenna’s Market. Then walk the riverwalk trail and enjoy all the beautiful surroundings along the walk. For dinner, we would have a relaxing dinner on the patio of the House of Wines. We’d be sure to grab one of their tasty wine slushies.

Thursday- Start the morning off at the poolside, laying out and relaxing at one of the local pools! Having dinner at the house with local meat from Sugar Butte Farms and delicious produce from our marketplace. Ending the evening with a fire and good company.

Friday- Creative morning at the Watering Can Studio painting some pieces of pottery! Enjoy lunch from The Original Pizza Place. We would head downtown to catch the boat to head to the historic Blennerhassett Island. Spend the afternoon at the island then come back in town to finish the day at the Wine Down on Market for dinner. For dessert, we’d devour a pie from Sugar Grove Sweet Shoppe (from our marketplace)

Saturday- A morning spent at the farmers market then after that head to Wildroot Flower Farm for a “U-pick”! Then come home to make an arrangement out of the beautiful flowers we just picked. Dinner at the local diner, Neaders!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom is my biggest mentor and supporter. She has been in the Agricultural Industry and Business Management for over 35 years. With her guidance and knowledge, she’s the foundation to my success. She always encourages my wild ideas and listens to all of my dreams of what I want the future of the business to look like.
