Hi Martelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I found myself dissatisfied with my 9-5 office job and yearning to pursue something I was truly passionate about. I began creating again and eventually garnered interest from others who wanted to purchase my creations. This led me to consider starting my own business, and I began thinking about the logistics and steps I would need to take in order to turn my passion into a successful venture.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Pisces, my imaginative personality shines through in my artwork, setting me apart from others. I also have a unique sense of humor that adds to the overall experience of working with me. Whether you’re looking for a dreamer with a creative eye or someone who can bring a lighthearted, fun energy to your project, I am the ideal choice. Partnering with me means receiving a one-of-a-kind experience that blends artistry with my one-of-a-kind personality.

For the past three years, I have been selling a select few art pieces in HomeGoods stores across the US, and this is by far my proudest accomplishment. To see my creations being appreciated and purchased by so many people is an incredible feeling, and it has given me the motivation to continue pursuing my passion for art. HomeGoods has provided me with an amazing platform to showcase my work, and I look forward to seeing where this opportunity will take me in the future.

Being an entrepreneur can be challenging as there is no map or blueprint to follow. This can lead to discouragement, but it’s important to keep pushing and not give up. It’s okay to ask for help and having a good support system can make all the difference.

It’s crucial to prioritize self-care as you are the backbone of your business. Remember that nothing can be accomplished without you, therefore taking time for yourself is not a luxury, but a necessity. Look after your well-being and make it a priority by resting, engaging in activities you love, and spending time with loved ones. Nurturing yourself emotionally and physically will enhance your productivity and efficacy in the long run. So, ensure that you take good care of yourself regularly to achieve success in your business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you spend a week with me, you will experience a plethora of exploring activities, especially in nature. I ensure that hiking, zoos, aquariums, museums, picnics, gym/yoga sessions, and cafes always make it to the list. The focus will be on your self-care, including your mind, body, and spirit, to ensure that you have a fulfilling experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to Johnnie, who has been an unwavering support system for me. He’s been a great help in every aspect of my life, whether it’s brainstorming ideas, lending a listening ear for venting, offering financial advice, or just being my source of positivity. I’m lucky to have someone like him in my corner and I’m grateful for his constant encouragement. Thank you, Johnnie!
