Meet Michael Craven | Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Craven and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We have wanted to open a space like The Hive for several years in Springfield. We knew that we wanted to have a space where multiple small businesses, work from home employees, and solopreneurs could work and thrive in the same place. Springfield is slowly starting to revitalize and having a modern workspace like this is a small piece of helping that growth. When we first saw the building we knew immediately that we had found the right spot for it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In addition to owning the Hive, I am currently the owner of Craven Bail Bonds. After my parents ran the company for over 40 years I took it over in 2024. Prior to taking that leap I was a professor of psychology at Miami University-Hamilton as the clinical psychology faculty member. I had always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur from a young age and a mix of different life circumstances led to taking the leap into business after years in the field of psychology.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the first spots I would take someone to is the reservoir to walk the paths and see the water. You can spend an entire afternoon out there. I would head out for a good meal to Cecil and Lime (best steak in town!). Other than that I’d spend a lot of time downtown, especially if it is First Friday. It’s great to hear the music echoing through town from Mother Stewart’s and see people go in an out of the shops downtown. Oh and for breakfast I’d head to the Salato Deli to grab a pastry, coffee, and a breakfast sandwhich!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My brother and partner in this business, John Craven. We have been pushing each other for years in our business and personal lives and without our partnership this would have been possible. My wife, Jenny Craven, is the other person I want to give a shoutout to. Her endless support and creative vision mean were the reasons this project ever came to be.
