Meet Pashea Proby-Henderson | Candle Connoisseur | Alchemist | Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pashea Proby-Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pashea, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I’m going to go with an affirmation and it is – I am proud of me.
‘I am proud of me’ is such an effortless phrase to speak, yet momentous in meaning!
I love that this affirmation is what it is , without restriction. It’s not asking anything of the individual or requiring that you get to a certain level in life. ‘I am proud of me’ , means that I am pleased with myself in spite of my mistakes. In spite of my past.
What should our readers know about your business?
Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart from others: being a small business, there is a certain level of love that goes into each hand-poured product. What I believe sets me apart from other candle makers specifically, is the storytelling component behind every single scent & how they each represent the many chapters in one’s life .
Most proud of: I’m most proud of the way my products and their scents have resonated with so many ppl. The stories they evoke are truly priceless!
How did I get where I am business-wise: Persistence, shadow work, and a deep love for creating in this space.
How did I overcome challenges: By sitting with myself and feeling. Allowing myself to feel has been one of the biggest factors in me overcoming.
Lessons learned along the way:
– Stop feeling the need to be humble. By definition humble means to show a low estimate of your own importance. It is not the positive descriptor that many of us believe it to be.
– Don’t be too attached to your vision. Things happen. Life happens. Often times way better than we imagined, so don’t get disappointed when your vision doesn’t look exactly how you thought it would.
– Set healthy boundaries early on. If you start this in the beginning, it will be much easier down the road.
What do I want the world to know about Shea Candle Co. ?
I want the world to know that Shea Candle Co. is expanding the ways in which people experience art. Inviting people on a journey , through fragrance.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie was visiting downtown Cincinnati/ OTR we’d most certainly have to take a stroll through Washington Park. Maybe even have an impromptu picnic if the weather is nice.
We’d also have to stop by Main Street Shop & Studio. A Boutique who sets out to uplift and breathe more life into local artists and their creations. If you want to support several local businesses in one place, this is the spot!
Below is a list of other places we’d visit:
Coffee:
Coffia Coffee Shop
Black Coffee
Paris Baguette
1215 Wine Bar and Coffee lab
Food :
Pho Lang Tang
Adeep India (this is not downtown or in otr but it isn’t far, and it’s so worth it)
Gomez
Island Frydays
Nolia Kitchen
Crown Republic Gastropub
Losanti
Drinks & a nice vibe :
Somerset
Nostalgia
Saeso
Revel
Cinema
Ghost Baby
Second Story (this is across the bridge in Covington KY)
Activities:
Cincy Art museum
Freedom Center
Selfie Cincy
Findlay Market
Krohn Conservatory
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout is dedicated to those that see their light, and cast it in a way that allows others to see theirs
If it wasn’t for these people I wouldn’t be where I am now.
