We had the good fortune of connecting with Rette Roettker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to have a restaurant and I have watched my parents have small businesses my whole life. I gained experience through them and also having my own massage therapy business. I knew a restaurant would be a whole different challenge and wanted to try to give our town a new place to go.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are unique because we have alot of housemade recipes and we make our own simple syrups for our bar. No mixes! Not alot of restaurants do this anymore. I knew the restaurant business would be hard, but it has been more challenging than I could have ever imagined! Finding employees, food costs, things breaking down, trying to anticipate the crowds and when to schedule more/less employees sp labor doesn’t kill profits are some of the challenges of everyday life. We have learned alot and keep learning everyday!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our restaurant of course! Along with great food and drinks, we have live music, movies, new game area, and karaoke! I would also take them to Boardroom46 to do some painting so they could have a keepsake of their visit. If weather permitted I would take them to some of the local trails in Rio Grande to hike and out on the Ohio River

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband is my business partner and my rock! My parents have always been there to help me as well. We have had some great support from other small businesses that have been great to allow networking opportunities that have been beneficial to both our business and theirs.
