We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Pfeifer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work-life balance was something I struggled with finding for a very
long time, and I still don’t have it to a science. During my time in
college, I was a complete workaholic. Still to this day, I struggle to
say no to any and all opportunities that come this way. However, I
have learned taking time for myself is incredibly important, you
cannot pour from an empty cup and if you try your body will force you
to rest and it will not be fun. Over time, I have learned to set
boundaries for myself, so that when I get home I don’t work. My home
is my sanctuary, I spend my time at home doing things that fill my
cup, whether that’s hobbies, or working on a passion project. I stay
away from work when I am home as that is my resting place. I try to
keep my weekends free for socializing, human connection is important
and vital to a happy lifestyle.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a photographer, I take pride in my ability to authentically capture someone’s truest self and tell the story of a brand in eye-catching photography. When I am behind my camera, I am truly at my happiest and I feel that shows in my work. My education at Columbus College of Art & Design taught me how to break out of my comfort zone and always strive to grow my knowledge. Since my graduation, I have been published in magazines such as (614), Needlework Retailer, and Just Cross-stitch, and was recently named one of Columbus’ top 10 commercial photographers by PeerSpace.

The biggest lesson I have learned through my career is that your biggest marketing opportunity is word of mouth. My success and business comes 90% from referral, it is very important to me that I always bring my best energy and willingness to work to every job. My clients trust me to create intimate, authentic photographs while capturing their stories, products, or most authentic selves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love showing new people Columbus. Growing up, I didn’t always love this city but as I matured I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else really. My favorite thing about Columbus is the vast amount of different food and cultures you can experience. Below is a list of my favorite food places to visit:

Schnieders – gotta have a cream puff
Kitchen Social – The service, biscuits, and food are all top-notch!
El Vaquero or Condados for Tacos and Margs!
Katalina’s for brunch, gotta get some pancake balls!
Fox in the Snow for breakfast – My favorite is the Cinnamon Roll and the biscuit and jam!
I would easily spend a whole day at North Market or East Market.
Cap City is another favorite of mine – have to have the Blue Cheese Chips and Romano Crusted Chicken
Stories on High – The best views, food, and drinks in all of Columbus.

Oh! The sports, you can’t miss sports. Personally, I am a hockey fan and a season ticket holder for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it is a must-hit for me anytime I show someone Columbus. My favorite attractions and bars to take someone are below.

Pins and 16-bit – good drinks, fun bowling, and an all-around good time
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium – I still go to the zoo a few times a year, Wildlights are a must-hit around Christmas.
Columbus Art Museum – Free on Sundays and always a good time

Just outside of Columbus, if you don’t mind driving, I love Groovy Plant Ranch and Hocking Hills for a good dose of nature and plants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank for the encouragement and support I get every single day. Firstly, my Best Friends Taylor and Quinnen have been with me through every single up and down in all aspects of my life, I wouldn’t have near the success that I have had in my life, mental health, and fitness journey without their constant motivation. My lifting buddy Courtney and coach Nic Bronkall have made my relationship with wellness take a complete 180 over the last 7 months and I am so grateful to have them in my life.

As far as my career goes, Claire Weidman and Adam Fakult both became some of my best friends and biggest motivators when it comes to being creative, I can always count on them. If I need a review of work, motivation to make something that isn’t client work, or even just support for unrelated life things they are my go-to people.
