Meet Scott Eakins | Vinyl Wrapper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Eakins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At the time that I decided to start my own business I was working in the field for a local sign shop. I had been building my skills and becoming locally known for the work I did. You see, in the wrap industry like many others it can come down to two types of work; commercial jobs and personal jobs. I prefer the latter, being able to use my creativity to stylize peoples personal vehicles. The sign shop I was at only wanted to focus on the commercial jobs, which I found frustrating and stifling. At a point where the frustration was building and my name was getting out there I was approached by a few other shops to come work for them. I was seeing the owners of these shops in a good financial situations, and thought I would never get there working for someone. I decided to take my skills and start a shop of my own, focusing on the personal jobs. Ultimately I thought that this decision would lead me down a happier more financial path in life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Working in the vehicle customization industry I rely on my art to try to stand out. I have an eye for details and like to take a different approach to projects than typically taken. This helps the vehicle really stand out and become a one of one look. I have been drawing and digitally designing since I was in grade school. I decided in 5th grade that I wanted to become a graphic designer one day and eventually made that happen. I have also worked in the automotive field since I was in high school. This combination and my personal life and interests give my work its own style. The art field is a tough and very competitive, but sticking to it staying patient, and learning to grow as an artist will pay off.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In the Dayton, Ohio area we would have to take a trip to the Oregon District downtown. There are plenty of little shops and great places to eat like Blind Bob’s, Dublin Pub, or The Trolley Stop. Marions Pizza is also a must get in this area. Most the time that I have free I like to go out to car meets like the Dayton Cars & Coffee or the No Limits 937 meets.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many that deserve a dedication like family, friends, and clients. I have to boil it down to my fans, I have a great group of people that believe in me. People that support and share my projects and I would not be where I am today without them.
