We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Risner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Yoga has always been a passion of mine, but it hasn’t always been an easy road. Starting in a new area, means starting over. It requires alot of patience and hard work. I worked for 7 years to build a clientele in Canton, and thankfully some of my clients followed me to the new space. It’s understandable for others to not follow, since its further south, and a new area than what they are used to.

Starting new means more opportunity for growth. Having my own business I have the freedom to bring a variety yoga and alternative healing practices, as well as events to the space. I am constantly brainstorming new ideas and collaborations to bring new audiences to or outside the studio. I have always been passionate of supporting other small local businesses, and will continue to partner with others to collectively build our brands.

I am grateful for the new clients and friends that I have met. Connecting to people in any way is one of my favorite things to do, It shows us that we aren’t alone, and we have alot more in common with others than we think. Yoga means “union”. By bringing people together, I have accomplished the true meaning of yoga.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have so many local spots that I like to share with people who are looking for unique experiences.

I love going to Downtown Canton. My favorite places to dine are Samantha’s Downtown for the best breakfast around. Fronimo’s or Basil Asian Bistro for dinner experiences. Just up the road, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is Don Shula’s American Kitchen which is a newer addition to the Canton area. Its a scratch kitchen, that honors the legacy of one of the greatest NFL coaches. The food and cocktails are top notch.

Fromage du Monde has the best unique meat, cheese, and wine selection around. Nicole is so knowledgeable & passionate about every product that she offers.

Muggswigz is a local coffee roaster, and tea merchant, that has been Downtown for 20 years. They make all their own syrups, and unique specialty drinks. They got me hooked on a London Fog Tea latte, that is the perfect afternoon pick me up.

For cocktails I suggest the Conestoga, one of the oldest bars in Canton. The Conestoga is located below the historic Onesto Hotel, that has been reformed into luxury apartments, The historic feel just adds to the experience.

Plant Et Art is a locally owned eclectic gift shop in Canton, who just recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. You can find the most unique jewelry and art pieces there. Deloris is so welcoming, and wraps your gifts with so much love. I could sit and talk to her for hours, just like I have many times. Her passion for art and the art community is mesmerizing.

For any of my vinyl or music needs, I travel to Downtown Massillon, to Erie Street Vinyl. Sam has the best collection around. The shop is filled with new and vintage records, that I could spend forever looking through.

For the best brewery I like to travel to Minerva, to Sandy Springs Brewery. A small town brewery that converted an old gas station in to a destination. They have a Brewers Quarters, as well as The Century Home where you are able to stay. Both are located right next to the brewery. A perfect little getaway not too far from Canton.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my Shout Out to my husband, children, family, & friends.

My husband has been a huge supporter in the idea & process of opening the studio. We worked together to get the space ready aesthetically. Since budgeting and numbers aren’t my thing, he helps me with the bookkeeping part of the business. He is also the one who gets me through the hard times, and reminds me why I started this journey to pursue my dream in the first place.

My kids have helped so much with the business as well. They have spent alot of time in the space, either cleaning or helping put equipment together. I am so proud to be able to show them the courage it takes to open your own business, especially as a woman. Teaching them that success doesn’t happen overnight, and you can achieve your dreams with hard work and dedication.

To my family and friends for all their love and support on my journey. Whether it’s helping with the kids, or just being a shoulder to lean on, they have been there no matter what.

To Topaz Tolloti who taught me the ins and outs of the yoga business, and has supported me since day one. Encouraging me to continue, and set aside my ego. Letting things be as they are, will result in growth & success.
