Meet Taylor Lamar | Event Curator / Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Lamar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I originally started my business and career path unknowingly. At the time I was a freshman in high school and we were required to do a work study/ internship for the summer. That’s when I actually began working with an organization called HPAC where I filled out my first grant to fund my after school program.
My vision was to bring home economics back in our schools. So I begin to offer interactive group projects, presentations and motivational speakers. That also includes homemade baked goods, and gourmet food at every session.
Fast forward to my senior year, I had no idea what I wanted or what the future held. That is then where my favorite teacher drove me in her own car and took me downtown to tour the culinary program at Tri-C. And it has took off every since.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I would want people to know that I’m resilient and the difference about me would be—I actually take love what I do. I take pride in it and it excites me and brings me joy. The famous saying goes “if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life” and that is truly an understatement.
Although I make a good living from my craft. It does take a toll on my mental health and it does consume me. Especially because Im mainly always booked so I spend most days running errands for inventory, marketing and advertising, creating flyers and stationery, creating invoices or thinking of new ideas. I recently just started finding a work life balance. Learning to remember to enjoy life and not be consumed by work constantly.
I’ve learned to always have faith in god, yourself and your gift. And with that you will never fail no matter what
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would more than likely take a friend from out of state to downtown Cleveland. Where we could enjoy a fun activity like the Cavs game or the Funny Bone (improv) comedy show for a good laugh.
For food, I would check out Lola’s, shooters on the water, wine tasting at Michael Angelo’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would absolutely love to thank my city of supporters, customers and clientele for always supporting me first and foremost. Because entrepreneurship is hard and even though we all have our fair share of trials and tribulations. I don’t feel like I ever had to endure the starter business syndrome. Where you have no orders, no followers pr support. I had a lot of love, guidance and encouragement from the very beginning and it is truly a blessing.
By me offering so many different things, every new venture I have always had the most upmost respect and appreciation for everything I do.
But I mainly like to thank my husband, we met while I was in culinary school and even though it wasn’t his dream. He helps me full time day in and day out and has always believed in me, supported me, comforted and pushed me. I appreciate him and adore his presence.
