Meet Vincent Steinbach | Artist/Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vincent Steinbach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vincent, what are you inspired by?
I have many inspirations for Order 949, each coming from various kinds of media, from movies such as the original “Planet of the Apes” series of films and western classics such as “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly”. And even video games such as Darkwatch and the Ratchet and Clank series.
Among the many inspirations, I have a special collection of inspirations I like to call “The 7 Main Inspirations”, which are the fundamental building blocks for the overall inspiration of Order 949. They are:
-The Fallout video game series (mainly Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas)
-Star Wars
-Bioshock
-Turok: Evolution
-Borderlands
-Jak and Daxter (mainly Jak II)
-Fahrenheit 451 (1953) by Ray Bradbury
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the thing I’m most proud of is how far Order 949 has come as a whole, from a story with rough images to drawn out characters and deep lore that is continuing to expand. I’m looking forward to fleshing out this world space even more as time goes on.
Living with autism, it has been a struggle but I overcame it through the support of family and friends. Being creative has helped get through difficult times and through it all, has given me an appreciation to stand out and embrace being different. It has led me to take interest in stories that are unique in a way that they are overlooked and under appreciated . It’s as though it’s its own thing. There’s something you enjoy about it that it’s hard to describe it other than “that”. Like seeing the artwork of H.R. Giger or something similar in style, people point it out and say it reminds them of said artist. Or how directors have a certain style of directing that makes them recognizable, such as Michael Bay and his use of explosions in his movies, or M.Night Shyamalan and his use of plot twists.
I think a lesson I have for anyone trying to pursue a creative venture, be it art, writing, music, or anything of that matter, is to find your style and uniqueness, because that uniqueness will only come from you. People may not show it but people appreciate things that actually go against the grain. And if there’s one thing you should do as a writer, watch video game/movie reviews, because you will learn what people like to see as well as what not to do when writing a story. You want to make sure your audience is invested in it, and not just you. Or even better, watch certain scenes in movies and capture that similar feeling into your writing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great question! I frequent downtown Cincinnati fairly often, and among the coffee shops over there, my favorite to visit is Deeper Roots, where I’ll spend part of my day drawing and working on the story. I also walk through downtown and visit Washington Park, and grab lunch at the many food vendors in Findlay Market. My personal favorite in Findlay is Harmony Plant Fare! They got some amazing vegan sandwiches definitely worth trying!
Another coffee shop I visit on occasion is Carabello Coffee Company in Newport, KY
If you live in the NKY/Cincinnati area, there’s Gold Star and Skyline Chili, granted Skyline is way better!
There’s also some good pizza places in NKY, like Poseidon Pizza and Bourbon House Pizza. Larosa’s is also worth trying too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
