We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.
When I think of the word “balance” I think of everything getting equal time or carrying equal weight so that it “balances” out and I don’t subscribe to that.. Instead, I operate from the concept of overall life harmony. Harmony, by definition, is a pleasing, orderly arrangement of parts and that’s how I approach my life. It’s not about dividing hours between work and personal life, but about giving each area of life – work, relationships, health, creativity, restht, so on and so forth, — the attention and energy it needs, when it needs it so that life feels good to me at each of its different phases. For the first 15 years of my career, I viewed risk primarily through a negative lens, as something to avoid. I thought of what could go wrong, which led me to stick with traditional jobs and a “keep your head down” mindset. I think we have uniqueness in our set of capabilities in the band where we all are very involved in the music making, but then all have other elements of competence that have helped us create a visual identity that aligns with our musical direction. I’ve always wanted to be an artist. It’s just how my mind works. I’ve been singing since I was about 4-6 years old and I always had a passion for music. What makes me happy is being able to use as many of my gifts to help others. This makes me happy because I get to find creative ways to use the many gifts the Lord has given me.
