We had the good fortune of connecting with Bria Spaulding and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bria, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I have tried my best to be a strong advocate for small black owned businesses. Almost every time I DJ or Host I wear a black owned business. Whether it is a hat, socks, shoes, shirt, hoodie, jacket, pants, shorts, even my jewelry is black owned. I also make posts on my instagram whenever I can as an attempt to get more eyes on my missions. A really cool thing I did for my birthday was I held a black owned business sale that included Monee Minks, Ballout Worldwide, In Question, Chainbreakerz, Christopher Prince, PressureCo (1ofNone) and AFVisuals! All of the business owners I worked with are either HBCU Alumns or current HBCU students which is also a really awesome factor!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a DJ/Emcee this work is far from easy and I know I have talked about that before however in this current season things are….a different type of hard. Imposter syndrome is something that I think all people struggled with but even with all my recent accolades and successes; imposter syndrome has hit a little harder than usual. This is very interesting to me because you would think it would be the opposite; I would feel more confident and empowered etc. however, I feel like I should be doing more and continually enhancing my craft. I have understood through my years in the business that “Pressure is a privlege” so I take that into my everyday life and do my best to keep myself positive and just simply doing my best whenever I walk into an event.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a great question! Cincinnati has SOOOOOOO many great spots to visit. A few food places I would take them of course would be Black Owned! 6 n the Morning/6 @ nite would be a great place to visit as well as Soul Secrets! I would also take them to Nostalgia Wine and Jazz Bar (it is by far one of my favorite places to go to in the city). Additionally, we would have to hit some Cincinnati staples: Gold Star, Skyline, Camp Washington Chili, UDF, and Graeters. I have also grown to love the banks just because it is downtown on the river and it has so many bar and food options that could work out for different people. We would also have to hit a Cooper’s Hawk at some point (because I LOVE wine). There are so many great attractions as well to visit in Cincinnati: The Art Museum, The Zoo, The Aquarium and many more spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that deserve some recognition in my story from Ralph the owner of Finest Ent, to Juice Finesse, to Kay Money, DJ AD, DJ Zae, DJ Ray Holiday and so many other folks. Right now in the spirit of mentorship I have to shoutout KB Thee MC and Ballout as they are two hosts that I have been working very closely with! I also have to show some love to some of my DJ’s that I have been growing close with DJ Loaf, Great DJ Dean, and DJ LaDon. Also, everyone that is a part of No Loose Ends which is a DJ/Host Coalition I started with KB as a way to enhance our craft and have other like minded people to bounce ideas off of etc.
