How did you choose a creative path?

Deciding to pursue an artistic or creative career path isn’t for the faint of heart. Challenges will abound, but so many of the artists we speak with couldn’t be happier with their choice. So, we asked them about how they made the decision in the first place.
Throughout my life, art has always been a significant passion of mine. Whether it was my parents taking my sister and I to museums or pausing our TV shows to draw cartoon characters, creativity was a constant presence. However, art was never presented to me as a viable career path, so I naturally leaned towards my other interests in math and science, eventually planning to attend medical school after high school. I pursue a creative career because I feel the arts is one of the only industries that completely allows you to express yourself however you feel without judgement. It’s always rocky at first until you find your place, but when you do at that point nothing can stop you if and only if you don’t give up on yourself. Some people might not get it, and even laugh in your face; but at the end of the day you know what the mission is, and you can’t let discouragements like that stop you. Creativity has always been a natural feeling and an easy pursuit ever since I was a kid. I always found myself constructing something out of nothing. That satisfied feeling afterwards is something I’ve continued to chase my whole life. Being a glassblower it still amazes me that I can make something one day and the next day it is done, instant gratification! That reward is something that still fills my soul daily and is what keeps me completely enthralled in the glass making process, and has for 20 years now. Read more>>
