We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Gorman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’d say persistence. Never giving up. Understanding that “NO means “NOT RIGHT NOW.” Not taking rejection personally and Always striving to be better than I was the day before. Being personable and someone other people enjoy working with. Maintaining a high level of communication and always saying what I’m going to do then doing what I say. Flaky artists who aren’t reliable do not last long in this business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey started when I was very young. I could always draw and even at a young age I knew and my parents and teachers knew I would go into art as a profession. The journey has taught me a lot about myself and has taken me to places I never thought I’d ever go. Both physically, and spiritually. Being a creative person has opened doors and because I was willing to work hard and always try and better myself each day, many of those doors never closed and new ones open every day. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is believe in yourself. No one else will if you don’t and tell everyone about your ability. No one will know unless you tell them. Let them know!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In the area there are so many great places to eat. If you come to Akron you have to try Swenson’s, Dontino’s, Golden Dragon just to name a few. We’d have to take in a Baseball game at The Rubber Ducks facility and visit one of the many Comic Book stores in the area. The Akron art museum has a great collection of works. And if it’s the first weekend of November, we would be hanging out at The Akron Comicon all weekend long.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This area has a really strong collective of creative minded people. Some of the most creative people in the area have become my life long friends and some of the opportunities I’ve had in the Industry come directly from them or inspired me to work harder to get where I want to go. Some of us who have worked together and tabled together for years at comic book conventions and store appearances across the country have come together to form “Route 8 Studios.” Myself, Damion Kendrick, Chris Kasmar, Cameron Blakey, Rick Lozano and Robert Kraus are all working together on creative projects, Comic Books and Apparel Designs from an office space we recently opened in Stow, Ohio. We will start rolling out products in the next few months. You can email us at [email protected] for more information.
