Meet TC Cryder | DJ & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with TC Cryder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TC, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My initial desire to start DJing came from a love of so much weird and cool music that I was never hearing anyone around me playing out and wanting to bring a highlight to the artists and sounds that I personally enjoyed. I eventually started producing with an eye to performing live because of a desire to bring my own personal sounds out into my sets and to have a unique aspect of live performances that stand on their own without being part of any of my own productions or DJ sets.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My output as a producer is rooted in a dark, semi ritualistic place with a heavy focus on atmospheres and psychedelic sound design. As a specific choice, I don’t incorporate the human voice in my output and prefer to focus on a primal rhythm and synthesizing sounds that have a much more cerebral impact than something that is more melodic and in a typical song structure. I’ve gotten to where I am from the efforts I put in out of the public eye and only bringing forth my works until I have something I feel good about putting out into the world. My method of writing is honestly my own biggest struggle as if I sit down with an incredibly specific idea of what I’m going to make, I rarely if ever end up being satisfied with that idea. I instead end up either starting with a drone or some simple sequence, applying complex effects chains to them, and massaging that output into a place I’m content with and bring the rest of the elements in to complement that core.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was showing someone around town, I would most likely end up taking them to something going on at either The Summit, Cafe Bourbon Street, or Ace of Cups as those tend to be my favorite places in town and have been for a long time. When it comes to food, I would most likely take them to Dosa Corner as it’s my personal favorite restaurant in town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to bring some light to DJ Coppertop for mentoring me in the pursuit of DJing as a creative endeavor when I was just a 20 year old weirdo that kept coming to see her sets around Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. I also have to thank my mother as she was always my absolute biggest supporter in my life. Big shoutout to the whole Deepfield crew locally too, they’re putting on my favorite events here and doing things the right way.
