We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Palmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey into entrepreneurship started from a place of uncertainty and self-doubt about my future. After graduating high school in 2015, I, like many others, felt lost—unsure of what I truly wanted to do with my life. I believed the only path forward was one that required a college degree. While juggling different jobs in the food industry, I slowly but surely found myself falling in love with the art of music production. I crossed paths with a few people who shared the same interest, and their enthusiasm pushed me to pursue it even more. The more I immersed myself in the world of music, the more I realized it was what I wanted to do and I couldn’t ignore the calling any longer. After a few years of immersing myself in creating music, I decided to take a leap and invest my time and resources into becoming a DJ. At first, I wasn’t interested in the idea—traditional DJing just didn’t appeal to me. But fast-forward four years, and I’m now fully embracing every part of it and loving every moment of the journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been drawn to music from a very young age, captivated by the sounds of the guitar and piano. My journey with music expanded when I had the chance to play the trumpet in middle school. Though I was nervous at first, it wasn’t until 8th grade that I made the leap to join the school choir. My love for music was there, but the real push came from seeing others who looked like me in the choir. That connection made all the difference. I continued with choir throughout high school and was even part of the school’s chorale group. I loved it all, but once high school ended, my interest in choir faded.

In 2018, much had changed when I discovered music production. It was like falling in love with something that felt like it had always been meant for me, and I was hooked. Fast forward just a couple of years to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I found myself diving into DJing. At first, I wasn’t sold on the idea—I didn’t really see the appeal. But after some serious reflection and research, I decided to take the plunge and buy my first DJ controller.

Within months of getting my hands on the controller, I was already being booked for events. I wasn’t about to turn down any opportunity for exposure, even though I felt like I had just scratched the surface of DJing. The first few months were filled with nervousness and self-doubt, each event pushing me out of my comfort zone. But now, as I continue to perfect my craft, I’ve come to appreciate the process.

This whirlwind journey, though still in its early stages, has taught me what true devotion to your craft looks like—especially when you’re doing something you’re passionate about. I’m enjoying every moment of this ride, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Columbus is full of exciting things to do, but here are a few of my top recommendations for an amazing day out.

We’d kick off the morning with a peaceful walk through the nature center at Blacklick Woods Park in Reynoldsburg, OH. It’s a hidden gem, offering stunning views of parts of the park that are usually off-limits to visitors, along with a scenic trail that’s perfect for a hike. If you’re into golf, the park also boasts a huge 18-hole and 9-hole course, both offered at great prices.

For lunch, we’d head downtown to The Walrus on E Main St. This spot is a local favorite, featuring a large bar and menu filled with all kinds of American eats. Plus, if you’re in the mood for some friendly competition, they’ve got a few pool tables to enjoy while you dig into your meal.

To wrap up the evening, we’d make our way to The Citadel 614 on the southside of the city. This laid-back venue has an awesome rooftop view, making it the perfect spot to enjoy live music, art exhibits, and just soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Columbus.

It’s a perfect mix of nature, great food, and local culture—definitely a day you won’t forget!.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a massive shoutout to the elders in my family who laid the foundation for all that I do in music today. Coming from a long line of musicians whose music echoed through the scenes of West Virginia and North Carolina, I can’t imagine where I’d be without their love for the craft. Their influence and commitment to music paved the way for me, and I’m forever grateful for everything they’ve done.

A special thank you goes to my high school choir teacher, Lori Vance, whose impact on my musical journey was profound. Her lessons weren’t just about music theory or sight-reading—they were about passion, precision, and discipline. Lori had a unique way of making each lesson impactful, ensuring that we, as young teenagers, felt the positive energy and encouragement we needed. Many of her teachings and lessons still stick with me and help to this day.

I also want to express my appreciation to the owners of The Citadel 614, who have played an instrumental role in my journey. They’ve provided me with a platform to showcase my art, and together, we’ve worked to create amazing events for the people of Columbus. As the house DJ for our events, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with an incredible team. Over the years, our relationship has grown, and I’m beyond excited for the future as we continue to bring something special to the south side of city.
